Furry friends Maja and Mulan who's residence is at Drusillas Park, East Sussex, were in need of help in the form of bamboo. Red pandas eat around 20,000 bamboo leaves every single day! They’re among the fastest growing plants in the world, capable of growing up to 60 centimetres in a single day. Drusillas grow huge amounts of bamboo at the park, but sometimes when demand is high, it's just not enough for the hungry duo.
Back in February 2022, we got asked to tackle a forest of bamboo for a lovely customer.
Straight away, we knew we wanted to donate the bamboo to Drusillas Park to fill Maja and Mulan's bellies!
"Thank you to the wonderful Dan Reed Gardens for delivering a stuPANDAS amount of bamboo for Maja and Mulan today!" - Drusillas Park

Fun facts!
So, why do Maja and Mulan only eat bamboo? Well, they evolved to do so. Experts believe pandas eat the delicious green goods as they are unskilled hunters. As well as being slightly lazy - ok, very lazy; bamboo is readily available all year round, and after thousands of years eating only that, they actually prefer it over meat.
Not to mention the health benefits that come with eating bamboo:
With high levels of fibre and very few calories per serving (even if pandas eat 23kg-40kg worth everyday), bamboo shoots are a great way to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease
The high concentrations of cellulose stimulates appetite, prevents constipation, and improves digestion
We are so glad we could help.
